DeepSeek V4 Lags US Models, While Huawei Ascend Powers Its Inference — Korea's Inference Accelerator Supply Chain in Focus

DeepSeek Lags the US Models. Huawei's Chips Are Already Running Them.
On the same day DeepSeek V4 came in at 52 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index — eight points behind OpenAI's GPT-5.5 at 60 — Huawei confirmed its Ascend chips and SuperNode systems fully support V4 inference. The model gap didn't close. But the layer of infrastructure that lets you actually run a Chinese model without American GPUs just went live.
Two things happened on the same day. DeepSeek V4 landed at 52 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, trailing OpenAI's GPT-5.5 at 60 by eight points and falling short of Anthropic Claude Opus and Google Gemini 3.1 Pro at 57. The model gap didn't close. But that same day, Huawei confirmed its Ascend chips and SuperNode systems fully support V4 inference. Stack on top of that the South China Morning Post reporting that Moore Threads' MTT S5000 GPU has finished full-stack compatibility work with Alibaba's Qwen3.5 series, and the timing of Nvidia H200 shipments into China remains anyone's guess. Translation: the models still trail, but a layer of inference infrastructure capable of running Chinese models without American GPUs has crossed from theory into production. For Korean semiconductor investors, the relevant story isn't training-grade frontier GPUs — it's the inference accelerator supply chain. This is the first quarter where non-Nvidia inference silicon (Ascend, MTT) actually started absorbing live commercial models.
